The Throbbing Lemon
Finished.

At least for now. What it really needs is each and every last piece to be cleaned properly, and the chrome re-dipped etc. Well, one day maybe, but for now I am happy that it looks and works like a typewriter. I’m going to polish the black paint so it shines, then it will look even more the part.

To finish off, I stripped the carriage assembly and worked out how to wind up the tension wheel to the right strength to pull the carriage along when a key or space bar is pressed. There was a very frustrating little lever on the back by the cog assembly which must have been sticking on because the carriage would not move at all untill I had fiddled around with this lever about 15 times. After that, it just cleared and now everything is as it should be.

Anyway, carriage assembly went back on easily enough, top screws fitted in much more easily than they came out, and the front bar and plates, after a bit of a clean and wipe over, went back on.

All we need now is a new ribbon, which is on its way…
