Finished.
At least for now. What it really needs is each and every last piece to be cleaned properly, and the chrome re-dipped etc. Well, one day maybe, but for now I am happy that it looks and works like a typewriter. I’m going to polish the black paint so it shines, then it will look even more the part.
To finish off, I stripped the carriage assembly and worked out how to wind up the tension wheel...

The Underwood #5 Project
I shall start with the traditional ‘before’ picture.
My daughter got this lovely old typewriter in a carboot sale the other day to go in her 30s style bedroom she is creating, it was cheap, and broken, so needs a bit of a clean up and various repairs to get it working.
